Moving innovations more effectively from concept to marketplace

Our new partnership with Blue Marble
will offer a complete innovation solutions service

We’re excited to announce a new partnership with another Missoula, MT, based company working to bring cost-effective and life friendly solutions to the marketplace.

Missoula, MT—Biomimicry 3.8 and Blue Marble are proud to announce a new partnership that will for the first time deliver a complete innovation solutions service that more effectively moves bio-inspired innovation through the entire lifecycle of product development. The partnership combines biological intelligence, design thinking, concept development, and rapid prototyping in a process that delivers more cost-effective and life friendly solutions to the marketplace.

“Biomimicry 3.8 uses nature’s inherently sustainable solutions to help drive innovation. Blue Marble’s work to use waste and feedstock as raw materials means that together we can more quickly advance sustainable products to the marketplace. It’s what we like to call feeding two birds with one scone,” said Janine Benyus, Biomimicry 3.8 Co-founder.

Both companies have worked individually with a host of Fortune 100 companies to tackle a comprehensive list of challenges. This partnership will ensure projects move more effectively from concept to prototype and into manufacturing and the marketplace.

The companies are currently working together on challenges to find sustainable solutions for natural colors, green chemistry, biological manufacturing, pest management, industrial lifecycle improvements, and new materials.

“We have always looked to nature first to help expedite and decrease the cost of innovation in ingredients and clean technology,” said James Stephens, Blue Marble Chief Executive Officer. “It’s only right that we are now partnered with the brilliant people at Biomimicry 3.8 to accelerate sustainable and innovative solutions for all industries. While we are known for our work in natural and sustainable ingredients, our portfolio of development extends across all industries and aligns well with the evolution of Biomimicry 3.8’s work.”

Given their past work and expertise, the companies expect the new partnership and development process will be particularly impactful in accelerating innovation, decreasing time to market, and in providing an overall reduction in costs associated with disruptive and incremental innovation in sectors including agriculture, construction, cosmetics and personal care, food and beverage, ingredients, and new materials.

The fact that both companies are located in Missoula, Montana, allows them to perform iterative research and development, but also scale processes and demonstrate biomimetic solutions in a uniquely cost effective way.

“Working in front-end innovation requires we continually adapt and evolve our work to meet the needs of our clients. Our partnership with Blue Marble enables us to take our work further into the prototyping process, making it easier for companies to advance biomimicry projects. It’ll be exciting to showcase how quickly this allows us to get groundbreaking innovations off the shelf and into the marketplace,” said Nicole Miller, Biomimicry 3.8 Managing Director.

The companies will demonstrate their work together at the upcoming International Food and Technology (IFT) trade show, July 15-18, in Chicago, Illinois. Trade show participants will be able to ideate and innovate along with biomimetics, chemists, engineers, microbiologists, and product developers to learn how biomimicry and natural ingredients are transforming the industrial ecosystem.
