Explore Biomimicry at the World Expo!

Experience the world’s smallest biomimicry museums at the biggest world fair! At Expo Dubai 2020, the most sustainable world’s fair to date, six micromuseums share valuable lessons taught by some of our most undervalued and humble teachers in the world—the 30 million ingenious species all around us.

Biomimicry is a practice that learns from and mimics the strategies found in nature to solve human design challenges—and find hope along the way. It offers an empathetic, interconnected understanding of how life works and ultimately where we fit in.

Biomimicry helps us design generously.
We can create conditions conducive to life, just like nature does. Our products, processes, and places can be designed to give back to the environment and contribute to the larger ecosystem functions of nature.

Biomimicry gets us to sustainable solutions, faster.
Our R&D cycles are slow, and climate change won’t wait—we must look to the biological blueprints that have been successful over millennia to launch groundbreaking ideas, faster. We don’t need to reinvent the strategies that are already here.

Biomimicry changes our perspective on the world.
As innovators turn to biomimicry for efficient designs, they often gain a deep appreciation of and connection to the natural world. Biomimicry is about valuing nature for what we can learn, not what we can extract, harvest, or domesticate.

We are grateful to:

The 18 teachers from the Arabian ecosystem

These creatures tell important biomimicry stories to learn how to thrive on planet Earth, and we owe them our deepest gratitude. You can find more biomimicry mentors at AskNature.org, a database dedicated to helping people learn from nature by asking the question: “How does Nature solve this?”

Expo 2020 Dubai, United Arab Emirates

The team in Dubai recognized the importance of sharing nature’s wisdom with millions of visitors. Fortunately, the micromuseums will live on and become permanent exhibits in Terra—the Sustainability Pavilion where stories come alive to show what’s possible for a sustainable world.

The determined inventors and companies around the world

The innovators showcased in the micromuseums are dedicated to finding solutions that take the time to understand the science behind their unique regenerative designs inspired by nature. We are so appreciative that they “quieted their cleverness” to learn from their biological mentors.

The artists and photographers willing to share their hard work

We would like to give special credit to those that help us tell nature’s stories through their valuable photography and illustrations seen throughout the micromuseums.

We welcome you to…

dive deeper into the topic of biomimicry! We offer immersion workshops and master degrees, innovation consulting, and inspirational speaking. Also check out our sister organization, the Biomimicry Institute, for more ways to make connections with the Biomimicry Global Network and nature’s network!

When we begin to see the Earth and its biodiversity as models and mentors, then we will have the right motivation and the right perspective to fit in—to survive and to thrive.
